Flaming Cardinal

"The Firebird is invariably described as a large bird in majestic plumage that brightly glows in red, orange and yellow light, like a bonfire that is just past the turbulent flame. The feathers do not cease glowing if removed, and one feather can light a large room if not concealed." - Animal Guides : Creatures of Fire & Air

Francesco Vezzoli

I am completely fascinated by Italian performance, video, and embroidery artist Francesco Vezzoli. He currently lives and works in Milan. He has some amazing work based off of screenplays by Gore Vidal. This piece is entitled "Chaerea Killed Caligula" and is oil on canvas with red thread. I also enjoy his "Suddenly Last Summer" series.

Like Clockwork

I made this piece in November of 2007. I was recovering from two herniated discs at the time and was just getting back on my feet.

Emily Prince

The cover art for Joanna Newsom's "Milk-Eyed Mender" by Emily Prince was one of the reasons I taught myself to stitch. She is currently working on an ongoing portrait series entitled American Servicemen and Women Who Have Died in Iraq and Afghanistan (but Not Including the Wounded, nor the Iraqis nor the Afghans).

Anne Brenneke

Fashion designer and artist Anne Brenneke makes incredible quilted portraits. Above is a detail from one of J Dilla. It comes from a series called “Life After Death,” and all the pieces depict deceased rappers. Eazy-E, Biggie, and Big L are also honored by her work. Thanks to Leo for the link.
